About
My work with Domestic & Sexual Violence began in 2011 when my dear friends granddaughter was murdered and strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend in Austin, Texas. In my love and desperation to do what I could to help her, I started a foundation on her behalf. I took over 120 hours of training at Safe Place so that I could help bring awareness and education to the community and to victims as well. Interestingly enough, through the training, I realized that I was a victim as well. Emotional and verbal abuse are experiences under the same umbrella.
I named the foundation at that time "LeeLee's Lighthouse Foundation". Since then my dear friend has passed away. The Foundation is now named "The Lighthouse Initiative" simply because a lighthouse helps ships navigate through dangerous and uncharted territory; it helps to guide them to safety. This is the purpose of what I do. To help victims navigate to safety and to educate and train the community in that initiative.
Our Mission
To Shed Light on Domestic & Sexual Violence; Saving Lives Through Education, Resources, Partnerships, Evolving Strategies, Awareness and Support of Legislation.
This work begins and ends with the interest of victims and survivors of relationship abuse.
If we are to fight discrimination and injustice against women, we must start from the home for if a woman cannot be safe in her own home then she cannot be expected to feel safe anywhere
Our Vision
To shift Power back to those affected by relationship abuse. We envision a world where all relationships are positive, healthy and free from violence.
